The carrier undertakes to transport the goods safely to their destination, while the shipper pays the agreed freight in return. <\/p>\n<h2>Essential elements of a contract of carriage:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Parties to the contract<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sender<\/strong> (consignor): The person or company wishing to send the goods.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spedition-albrecht.de\/en\/glossar\/carrier\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"A carrier is a person or company that undertakes the transportation of goods on a commercial basis and transports them from a sender (consignor) to a recipient (customer). The carrier is responsible for carrying out the transportation on its own responsibility and with its own means of transport (e.g. truck, ship, train or plane) and&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Carrier<\/a><\/strong> (freight forwarder\/transport company): The company responsible for the transportation of the goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Type of goods<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The contract contains a precise description of the goods to be transported, including their type, quantity, weight, volume and any special requirements (e.g. hazardous goods, refrigerated goods).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Means and route of transportation<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It specifies which means of transportation (e.g. truck, train, ship, plane) will be used and which route the transport is expected to take. It also contains information on any stopovers and transshipment points <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Loading and delivery dates<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The contract contains agreements on the place of loading and when the goods are to be delivered to the destination. This also includes time slots for collection and delivery. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spedition-albrecht.de\/en\/glossar\/freight-costs\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Freight costs in land transportation depend on a variety of factors that affect the type of transport, the distance traveled and other operational aspects.
